Still dreaming of a Home by the Sea...

On this rather grim, dull, miserable, wet and windy morning here in what I call my home town, I am missing Lulworth very very much! Even when it showered there, I was happy. So I thought I shall add some more photos of our weekend away at Lulworth. Ahhh I miss that place so much!

Creative-ness!

It was my mum's birthday the Friday just gone, (2nd) and I thought I would do something special for her, seeing as we don't always get on, and she does do a lot for me, no matter how much I usually contest it!
I made her a card and a chipboard mini scrapbook/photo album of photos of her and our family. I started it very late, Tuesday evening to be precise! I spent every evening including Friday making the album. I eventually finished it about 6pm Friday, and fortunately she was out in London celebrating, so I left it on the mantelpiece ready for her to see it when she got home.

The state of my desk and room during the creation process!

The result? She loved it, bringing her close to tears. I'm glad, I wanted to show her how much I care and love her, and I hope that she saw that in what I made for her.
Inspired to put this up by these lovely people http://forblogs.blogspot.com/2011/02/whos-crafty-ftlob-link-party.html

Wake me Up, When September Ends.

Green Day

September onwards is my months of hell. This is when Graduate schemes are open for applications. These months involve an enormous amount of endless application forms, a copious amount of thinking about “why are you ideal for this scheme?” and an unhealthy amount of trumpet blowing. These are the things us graduates have to endure – if you’re unlucky enough not to know anyone who can just give you a grad scheme place. I am dreading it. Last year I applied for a HR grad scheme with the public sector. I got to the penultimate stage, which involved horrible writing tests and interviews and group work. I thought I had done rather well. Turns out I probably didn’t as I wasn’t accepted. I was devastated, but after a few months, I learned from my mum’s friends, whose kids were on the scheme all had to be let go because of the government cut backs. And apparently it is really hard and life consuming. So it was a blessing in disguise. I won’t be reapplying this year as advised.

This year, I was going to think outside the box, and apply for grad schemes that don’t have anything to do with psychology, and see if that gets me anywhere! I started one yesterday, for a PR scheme. It looked amazing; I wish I had done my degree in PR. So I got as far as the basics, filling in my name, date, education etc. Then came the dreaded “explain when...” questions. One of the first ones for this scheme was something along the lines of “Read the event scenario on page so and so, and explain what PR measures you would take to ensure that this event is not a disaster”.
I tried to google it and blag it, but to no avail. The cross was clicked on for that application!
I have emailed a graduate recruitment company who help graduates get a job in the sector they want. I have not had a reply. I don’t expect to either.
And so it goes on, just as it will for the next 6 months or so. To me, it’s a joke. Us graduates have endured 3 or 4 years of 4,000 word essays, 10,000 word dissertations, weeks of no life revising for exams, and the exams themselves. Then we are left lumbered with £15 odd grand in debt for a measly piece of paper that I could have done myself with word and posh paper and wax stamps from Hobby Craft. I don’t understand why then, after all of that, we have to go through tonnes and tonnes of more tests and interviews to get a job that our degree alone would have apparently “guaranteed” us of getting anyway. I really can’t get my head around why having a degree is not enough anymore. The whole system is corrupt. Like I have said previously, I could go on and on and on about it.
So anyway, that’s my rant about the forthcoming months. Many days and nights of filling out application forms and attending interviews lay ahead, most of which will probably a complete waste of time because I won’ t get the placement. Gahhh!

Life and Tea

I need to buy this book!

Ooh my Clipper tea Clipper Fair Trade Organic English Breakfast, 20-Count (Pack of 6) just arrived! I only ordered it yesterday!

Pretty darn amazing! I bought 4 boxes of 20 x oolong teas and a box of 50 x green tea with lemon. I had to buy the oolong tea in bulk, as there seems to be a large shortage of them around. I used to be able to buy them in my local supermarket, from Twinnngs, but they stopped selling them, due to the company discontinuing the tea =[. I highly recommend clipper teas. I got the lot for £9.97, and £3 delivery is not bad for next day! I’m looking forward to tasting their oolong tea. The Twinnings ones were very good!

On another subject, I was thinking about famous life quotes or sayings that people say to me to stop me feeling down about it all, and how true they are. You know “don’t worry, things can only get better” or “as one door closes another one opens”.  Well, to me, these sayings don’t apply to me. I feel like I’m an exception to the rule. I’ll go through some and explain:
-          “You have to work hard to get what you want”. My mum says this to me all the time. I have an anecdote to share with you; I did not work hard at all during my degree, and I received a 2.1. Amazing! Then there are people in life who I see on their facebooks that they just fall into fabulous jobs and have wonderful perks etc. They don’t work hard for it. Me? I have applied for probably a thousand amazing jobs, and I have not heard for one of them. Not one.
-          “Good things come to those who wait”. Ok, well, I haven’t been waiting as long as others have been for that point in life where it all falls into place, which actually proves the fact that good things don’t always come to those who wait. I’m still waiting. Well, for a great job at least!
-          “A degree will open many doors”. Now this is the biggest piece of crap I was ever told! I could write a whole 3000 word essay on this statement alone. But I’ll spare you. Basically, I have a degree. Doors are locked, dead bolted, walled shut. I am applying for degree related jobs, pushing hard against them, but they just won’t budge. I am in a job that school leavers are able to do. You see my point?
-          “The only way is up/things can only get better”. I would like to know when my job possibilities will get better.

Now, I would like to point out that I relate these to the whole working aspect of my life. The other side, love, family and friends, couldn’t be better. I just wish jobs will hurry up and start writing to me! Even offering me a job!  Just something that makes my degree worthwhile!
